SUMMARY 

The College is seeking candidates to teach Communication Studies courses:  2 sections of COM 131:  Fundamentals of Public Speaking in the winter semester at Kent City High School:  MW 7:45 a.m. ¿ 9:20 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. ¿ 10:55 a.m.  Information on our dual enrollment program can be found here.  Applicants hired to teach for GRCC must establish a Michigan address prior to the start of employment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Teach GRCC course offerings in Communication Studies:  Fundamentals of Public Speaking.
  • Perform tasks normally expected of adjunct faculty members: 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS 

Education Credentials

  • Master¿s Degree in Communication Studies or a Master¿s degree in a closely related field and 18 graduate credit hours in Communication Studies required. (Mandated by the Higher Learning Commission)
  • Only candidates with a minimum of a Master¿s Degree in Communication Studies or a Master¿s degree in a closely related field and 18 graduate credit hours in Communication Studies can be considered. 

 

Work Experience

  • College level teaching experience preferred.
  • Teaching experience at a community college preferred, but not required. 

 

Equipment Use/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to learn and use Blackboard, GRCC¿s Learning Management System.  Training is provided. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

 

Physical Demands

  • Some evening work (grading, preparing for class, responding to email questions) will be needed.
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

  • An understanding of and appreciation for the community college philosophy and student population. 
  • An interest in working with diverse student populations, who represent a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin, and ability.
  • A commitment to serve the Kent County community.

  • Ability to work under pressure while possessing mature judgement and flexibility in regards to interruptions and schedule changes.
  • Must use good judgement in handling sensitive or difficult situations in a professional manner.
