Mentor: Dr. Tanecia Mitchell, Department of Urology

Post-Doctoral Fellow Position Available

A postdoctoral fellowship is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Tanecia Mitchell in the Department of Urology at UAB. The mission of the Mitchell laboratory is to investigate the significance of immunometabolism in disease using basic science and translational research approaches. In particular, we aim to understand the role of mitochondria, oxidative stress, and inflammation in immune cells using state-of-the art techniques. Our goal is to understand mechanisms contributing to kidney stone formation and to identify therapies to prevent stone formation. Our lab is extramurally-funded by the National Institutes of Health.

The ideal candidate should have research experience using cell culture models and mouse models. Expertise in immunology, cell biology, flow cytometry, bioinformatics, gene editing, and molecular biology are highly desirable. The applicant will have the opportunity to gain extensive training in clinical trials and human dietary feeding studies.

Responsibilities will include designing and performing experiments that support multiple research projects, analyzing and presenting data, assisting/mentoring other lab members, writing and publishing research articles, applying for postdoctoral funding opportunities, and presenting at national or international meetings. The applicant will also gain training in project management and professional development.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates interested in this position should be enthusiastic, highly motivated, independent, and have excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. They should also be able to multi-task, pay attention to details, and work effectively within a team.
  • Must be willing to work with human clinical samples and
  • PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field.
