Job Description

 

Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign-born percentage population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.

 

Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing all functions of the college bookstore, including, but not limited to: operational an administrative supervision, budgets, financial goals, information systems, customer service, and policy. Responsibilities also include the purchase of course materials, trade books, supplies, apparel, equipment, advertising and maintenance of sales and inventory records; and employment and supervision of sales staff. Provides leadership, long-range planning, policy development and guidance, sales and returns, and cash management.

 

Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree. Coursework in accounting, marketing, finance, retail, and small business beneficial. Two to five years of similar or related experience. Experience in college retail is strongly preferred.

 

Essential Functions
 Manages bookstore accounting functions
 Purchase and coordinate textbook, trade book, insignia supplies and apparel.
 Ensure high level of customer service.
 Maintain inventory controls.
 Maintain an efficient flow of duties by evaluating bookstore procedures, initiate policy and procedure changes, direct operations to prepare and retain
records, file and report in accordance with accounting standards; initiate cost reduction programs; and coordinate all bookstore activities with other
campus departments and events.

 Supervise employees engaged in sales work, taking of inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts, operating records and preparing end-of-
day transactions and reports.

 Oversee and insure computer operations, POS functions, and program updates.

 Confer with college faculty as necessary to project textbook and supply order requirements.

 Conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action within college policy and state regulations.

 Attend state, regional, and national college bookstore meetings, seminars, training, etc. to keep apprised of bookstore trends.

 Provide retail floor support.
 Perform all other duties as assigned.
