Summary:

In order to further enhance workforce development initiatives at Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, we are actively seeking a Vice President of Workforce Development. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in crafting impactful and scalable programs that benefit our local communities and the broader Goodwill network. By fostering partnerships with employers and community agencies, the Vice President of Workforce Development will be instrumental in driving sustained mission impact, stronger community engagement and an elevated workforce.

The successful candidate for the role of Vice President of Workforce Development will bring a wealth of experience in developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive workforce development strategies that align seamlessly with the needs of the community. In addition to championing a culture of mission, learning, and leadership, this leader will contribute significantly to Goodwill Industries of the Valleys’ ongoing efforts to strengthen the local workforce, provide talent to local businesses, and advance the overarching mission of Goodwill.

Goodwill is an innovative social enterprise. GIV operates in three distinct business lines: donated goods, mission services, and business services. With a network of community partners throughout its 35 counties, and 14 city service areas, Goodwill is one of the region’s largest and most complex non-profit organizations. In partnership with the Chief People Office, the Vice President of Workforce will advance Goodwill’s development focus, shaping the future of our communities’ workforce and talent pipeline.

 

 

Essential Duties & Priorities:

  • Partnering with the Chief People Office, the Vice President of Workforce Development will set the strategic vision for workforce programs and initiatives that create significant sustainable impact and is scalable within local communities’ as well as the Goodwill network.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive workforce development strategy aligned with the organization's goals and objectives. This includes identifying community training and development needs, defining key performance indicators, and assessing the impact of programs.
  • Secure partnerships with employers and community agencies across the workforce development ecosystem that drive long-term mission impact, yield business growth, and ensure quality programming.
  • Build relationships with educational institutions, government agencies, and other community resources to enhance workforce development efforts.
  • Analyze and leverage state, federal and company sponsored grants and/or programs available for workforce development, including research, grant writing, implementation while abiding by grant guidelines and internal compliance.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of new and existing training programs, including in-person, online, and blended learning options. Ensure training sessions are communicated within local communities as well as are well-organized, efficient, and address the needs of the participants.
  • Lead the development of training curriculum and materials that cater to the evolving needs of our workforce. Ensure programs are current, relevant, and engaging to maximize learning and skill acquisition.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on the progress, outcomes, and challenges of workforce development programs. Communicate achievements and opportunities for improvement to key stakeholders.
  • Manage the budget for workforce development programs, optimizing resources to maximize the impact of initiatives. Ensure cost-effective solutions while maintaining program quality. Partner with Finance and Compliance as internal partners to ensure oversight of financial performance, contract administration and business continuity plans.
  • Stay updated on relevant regulations and compliance requirements related to workforce development and training. Ensure all programs adhere to legal and ethical standards.
  • Determine how Goodwill can make a difference where need is greatest and lead Goodwill to drive transformational and equitable impact in the communities we serve.

 

 

Qualities & Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be an innovative and inspiring leader with at least 5+ years of increasing experience and responsibility in workforce development. They should have an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to work. The ability to represent Goodwill professionally, and strong and engaging communication skills (both written and spoken) are essential. Knowledge of any or all of Goodwill’s priority issues and services is beneficial. At a minimum, this position requires:

  • A proven track record of successfully navigating complex organizations in both non-profit and for-profit organizations.
  • Minimum 4-year college degree
  • Transformative leadership skills spanning the strong creation and development of teams and innovative leadership of programs.
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of workforce development and community needs.
  • Creative, innovative thinking as well as problem-solving skills with an ability to develop new, innovative solutions to current and emerging issues.
  • Results-driven and a self-starter, flexible and able to prioritize multiple tasks, set priorities and ensure implementation against deadlines.
  • Skills to manage and implement change, as well as motivate and mentor staff while increasing performance.
  • Flexibility and the demonstrated ability to think creatively and thrive in a fast paced, complex social enterprise environment, juggling numerous projects and satisfying varied constituencies simultaneously.
  • Community and mission-driven, focused, and energetic.
  • Demonstrated record of maturity, sound judgment, integrity, and adherence to ethical standards.

 

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources, or a related field. Master’s degree in business or human resources strongly preferred. SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, and/or PHR certification also preferred.
  • 10 to 12 years of progressive experience in preferably in Human Resources as a high performer, including HR leadership and people management; at least three years of executive leadership is ideal.
  • Excellent record of effective leadership and team building, driving the development and evolution of progressive/entrepreneurial, high-performance cultures.
  • Experience in professional services and/or technology is strongly (artificial intelligence or cognitive computing strongly desired) to drive efficiency and operational excellence. • Prior success in creating and leading initiatives that attract, develop, and retain high-potential talent.
  • Proven success in designing and implementing diversity-enhancing programs and practices that drive culture by providing opportunities for team member engagement at levels.
  • Experience implementing HR policies and procedures using technology that improve operations, including HRIS, performance management systems, and payroll systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing HR plans for high growth, including driving talent acquisition and organizational development, evaluating and revamping compensation plans/salary structures, and overseeing the administration of compensation/benefits and employee relations.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic thought leader who thrives in a collaborative environment and has a creative, engaging, and people-focused attitude.
  • Creative analytical person who can navigate current challenges while strategically planning for periods of growth and work in a very fast-paced, ever-evolving environment.
  • Superior people skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse audiences. Exceptional written and oral communication skills with strong negotiation and influencing skills.
