The Tutoring Center in a service unit within the Learning Resources Center, an integral part of the academic units that report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The LRC advances the mission of the college through a comprehensive, readily accessible collection of VPCC curriculum related informational materials, instructional technologies, and other academic support services that meet the educational needs of students, faculty and staff.

This position serves a dual role as the supervisor of the Tutoring Center - managing the College Math and Writing Centers and the Peer Tutoring Program; and as an Instructor in the Tutoring Center providing individualized instruction to students who encounter difficulties with VPCC courses. As Tutoring Coordinator, the person in this position oversees services and evaluates full and part-time instructors in Writing Center, Math Center, and Peer Tutoring; hires and trains peer tutors; serves as administrator of online tutoring services (Brainfuse); serves as liaison and point of contact between tutoring services and faculty and staff and other tutoring programs within the college such as the Navigate, TRiO, and Literacy for Life. As Instructor the person in this position diagnoses students' needs and works with them to improve student competence and confidence in a variety of courses, using instructional methods and resources appropriate to the individuals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
  • Experience with Student Information Systems.
  • Multiyear experience in learning assistance, student services, counseling/advising, or teaching and learning in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated competence in evaluating and adapting learning methodologies for individualized study.
  • Experience in the supervision of staff in an educational setting.

Specialized Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated foundational knowledge in the field of education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of various learning models, evaluation techniques, and implementation strategies.
  • Thorough knowledge of adult development theory, particularly as it relates to teaching and learning services.
  • Understand the key theoretical frameworks and best practices within the fields of curriculum and the social emotional well-being of students.
 
Skills:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication and customer relations skills.
 
Ability to:
  • Communicate and collaborate with multiple constituencies in a higher education setting to advance the goals of the Learning Resources Center.
  • Tutor students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Recruit, train and supervise tutors.
  • Create and manage a budget.
  • Effectively deliver presentations and organize special programs and events.
  • Collect, interpret, analyze, and manage data.
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork in a student-centered environment.
  • Screen and assess student needs and determine appropriate action to be taken.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of student files and records.
  • Work at all campus locations
Preferred Qualifications:
PeopleSoft Student Information System experience.
