Essential Job Duties

NC State faculty from the departments of Agricultural & Human Sciences and Teacher Education & Learning Sciences are looking for an NC State Undergraduate Student to serve as a podcast and program associate and for the Extension program #PassTheMicYouth (#PTMY), a youth-led, youth-centered podcast and blog aimed at amplifying youth voices, shining a spotlight on youth activism, and providing educators with resources to develop critical consciousness.

Hosted and produced by NC State undergraduate students, #PTMY produces content that is grounded in social justice and highlights the contributions of young people. Archived podcasts and blog articles are available on #PTMY’s website, accompanied by corresponding discussion questions that educators can use to generate further dialogue. The website also features resources related to self-reflection, storytelling, and social justice issues. In addition, we organize an annual TEDxYouth event and host a Pass The Mic summer camp based on our Amplifying Youth Voices curriculum. The person in this role will also assist with the planning and organization of the TEDxYouth event and the camp, as well as explore opportunities to facilitate youth-related workshops. About #PassTheMicYouth 
#PassTheMicYouth is a youth-led, youth-centered multimedia program that amplifies the voices and experiences of young people, shines a spotlight on youth activism, and provides educators and youth-serving professionals with resources to develop critical consciousness. 

First and second year undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.

Primary Duties include:
  • Assist with planning and organizing TEDxYouth event 
  • Assist with planning and implementation of Pass the Mic summer camp
  • Update website resources
  • Co-host the podcast series (resources and equipment provided)
  • Edit podcast episodes using Adobe Audition, Garage Band, or similar software/be willing to learn how to edit the podcast
  • Assist with social media marketing and management
  • Assist with recruitment of guests to feature on the podcast
  • Assist with writing blog posts 
  • Assist with writing questions for extended dialogue for corresponding blog posts and podcast episodes
  • Attend meetings
