Position: Director, Finance/Human Resources
Salary: $97,000 - $107,000
Position Type/Duration: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm/Full-Time (Hybrid)

ABOUT THE CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR EDUCATOR PREPARATION AND INNOVATION
The Center of Excellence for Educator Preparation and Innovation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with office locations throughout the midlands of South Carolina. The aim of the EPI Center is to create equitable learning outcomes for students in underserved, high need areas and subjects by creating innovative pathways and models for increasing teacher effectiveness, addressing teacher shortages, and diversifying the teacher workforce in South Carolina and the Nation.

The Center of Excellence for Educator Preparation and Innovation (EPI Center) grows, diversifies, and supports the educator workforce through strategic implementation of professional preparation and learning pathways by partnering with underserved and under-resourced educational entities, eduprenuers, and communities committed to ending academic disparities.

SUMMARY
The Director of Finance/Human Resources is a senior-level position that reports to the Chief Operations Officer. The Director provides strategic leadership, vision, and implementation for the financial and human resources functions at the Center of Excellence for Educator Preparation and Innovation to advance the mission, vision, and strategic plan. The Director plans, organizes, directs, oversees, and operates Center-wide Human Resources operations and activities, including talent recruitment and hiring practices, payroll management, benefits administration, employee records, organizational development, policy and procedures, and employee relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team; demonstrated excellence in managing financial resources and developing open and inclusive relationships with staff and board; sophisticated understanding of operational aspects of an entrepreneurial non-profit organization.
  • Oversee all aspects of financial operations, including cash management, revenue cycle, and financial reporting
  • Analyze financial performance, providing regular and timely reports to the CEO and the Board of Directors
  • Plan, direct, and manage human resource programs including, but not limited to, payroll, benefits, leave, and employee support to ensure compliance with all regulatory and operational processes.
  • Identify staffing and recruiting needs; develop and execute best practices for hiring and retention.
  • Monitor and ensure the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Manage accounts payable and annual budget with matching funds.
  • Maintain financial software and process transactions in real time.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is fast-paced, multi-tasking, and smoke free. Must be able for full-time hybrid work during the general business schedule (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) plus extended evenings and weekends, as needed.

EDUCATION

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of ten (10) years of directly related experience is required. Five years of experience leading a team is required. JD or other advanced degree is appreciated.
  • Non-profit or higher education human resource management experience required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Human resources certification (SPHR or SHRM-SCP) is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth understanding of key financial controls, rules and regulations
  • Must possess well-developed oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience and proficiency with Human Resource Information System is required.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge, interpretation, and compliance with federal laws and state laws, policies/procedures related to human resource management and employee relations.
  • Must be a self-motivated, energetic, and creative individual with proven leadership, planning and administrative skills.
  • Possess excellent conceptual, analytical, and planning skills, while still being able to effectively connect with diverse constituents.
