Position Summary:

The VCU School of Business invites talented and qualified applicants to apply for the position of Human Resources Coordinator. This position will provide a wide variety of clerical, administrative, logistical, operational, and technical tasks related to human resources. This is a service-driven position supporting the Business School along with the Brandcenter, Center for Sport Leadership, daVinci Center, and Virginia Council on Economic Education (VCEE). Attention to detail, clear communication, and the accuracy and timeliness of transactions and distribution of information is critical to the success of this role, the HR team, and the School of Business. The position will work closely with the Human Resources Director and Senior HR Coordinator to successfully carry out personnel actions and human resources related duties. The coordinator will work under general supervision, resolving most standard issues independently, but referring complex issues to the Senior HR Coordinator or Human Resources Director.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Assist with a variety of HR functions, such as recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding for faculty, staff, and hourly roles, employee records, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training, recognition, etc.

  • Build relationships, establish credibility, and demonstrate business understanding in order to ensure an effective and collaborative partnership with our faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders.

  • Prepare, draft and distribute faculty adjunct contracts and secondary assignment requests while maintaining status updates to the finance team, department heads, and program coordinators

  • Assist departments with decentralized hires (student workers, work study, and graduate assistantships) and maintaining School of Business affiliate accounts

  • Utilize HRIS systems to process accurate and timely personnel actions . Verify accuracy of submitted data and ensure policy compliance

  • Collaborate with central hr, the provost office, and additional VCU offices and departments to review and submit confidential forms and records pertaining to applications, employment, enrollment, paychanges, and other sensitive HR materials.

  • Respond to internal and external HR related inquiries or requests and provide assistance

  • Serve as timekeeper and provide guidance on timekeeping and leave policies and procedures, including overtime, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), etc.

  • Assist employees and managers with performance management, SMART goal, and career development training and support

  • Assist with HR related communications

  • Assist with the maintenance of all employee records

  • Work on special projects and initiatives as needed to support the School of Business

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate level coursework in business or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures and ability to apply these procedures for recruitment, selection, training, compensation, benefits, records management, and information systems

  • Outstanding customer service skills and a high degree of professionalism

  • Excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word and Excel) and Google suite

  • Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment and switch to higher priority tasks

  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, with careful attention to detail

  • Ability to adapt to change, solve problems independently, and use available resources

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and with discretion

  • Operate with a strong team mentality while being able to work independently

  • Experience working in and fostering a diverse work environment or the commitment to do so as an employee at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or a related field

  • Professional experience working on an HR team

  • Knowledge of university and state human resources regulations, policies and procedures, and experience handling issues related to personnel, timekeeping, and payroll for faculty, staff, and hourly employees

  • Ability to interpret and calculate salary data using guidelines of employment and pay practices

  • Experience with HRIS systems (such as Banner, Cornerstone, ImageNow, and HireRight) is highly desirable

  • Experience with Jotform, Data Studio, or Smartsheet, a plus

  • Previous experience with workplace immigration

  • Previous experience working in a higher education environment

Other Information:

Priority will be given to candidates who submit their applications by July 2nd.

 


Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week. This position is eligible for a hybrid and flexible work schedule once training is complete and must be coordinated with the supervisor of this role.
