Advisor Schedule(s):

  • Sundays and Mondays from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM (1 hour lunch)

 

Overview: The Advisor is responsible for working directly with students in an advisory and coaching capacity. The Advisor facilitates a student-centered, safe, and accepting relationship that builds a sustainable foundation for supporting student growth and development. The Advisor provides opportunities for regular self-reflection and goal-setting that contribute to improving the participant's performance. The Advisor assists with problem-solving when students face barriers to their growth toward independence, facilitates conflict resolution between peers, and supports developing healthy relationships.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, implement, and provide advisory services based on the participant's and program's needs.
  • Skill assessment and the creation of individualized accommodations for student skill acquisition.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members, assisting in creating best practices for curriculum and activities.
  • Demonstrate independent decision-making, planning, and follow-through.
  • Maintain effective and professional communication with individuals inside and outside of MICC.
  • Facilitate positive relationships with community partners and promote MICC whenever possible.
  • Maintain confidentiality and promote respect for all MICC students, graduates, staff, families, and others.
  • Record participant information and evaluate participant performance electronically, as required.
  • Be involved in programming during family weekends and other events, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Ability to identify and assist in solving problems using strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Possess the personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and sound judgment.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of organizational, employee, and participant information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in work performance and communication with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid Minnesota driver's license in good standing.
  • Must reside in Minnesota.

 

Education and Experience

  • B.A., B.S. (Masters preferred), Social Work, Wellness Coaching, Education, Psychology, and School Counseling) or other related fields and/or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with young adults with learning disabilities and autism is highly desirable
