Senior Lecturer and Director of Education

Job Description

SENIOR LECTURER AND DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION, Institute for Medical Engineering & Science (IMES)-Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST), to lead HST educational programs based at MIT.  Will oversee educational policies, curriculum development, and all aspects of academic affairs; advise/mentor HST Ph.D. students regarding all aspects of their academic experience; steward the HST program and drive educational initiatives; shape the future of the HST educational experience as a collaborative thought partner with its co-directors; develop an educational portfolio in topic areas to be shaped by the skills and interests of the candidate and program needs; coordinate training programs and associated training grants; oversee academic budgets; serve as IMES/HST UROP coordinator; and perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in an area related to responsibilities; practical experience in education, specifically with regard to curriculum design, implementation, and assessment; at least five years’ administrative or related experience, preferably in an academic environment; teaching experience and demonstrated interest in educational innovation; supervisory experience and proven ability to lead and mentor teams that include administrative staff; ability to build effective working relationships with all members of the academic community, including staff, faculty, students, and senior-level administrators/leaders; a successful track record leading a complex organization; excellent organizational, problem-solving, and written and spoken communication skills; experience managing multiple projects and simultaneous priorities, timelines, deliverables and finances; proven ability to explain and clarify complex policies/procedures; good judgment, discretion, and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive and/or confidential issues; strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Zoom, and ability to quickly learn new systems (e.g., Canvas, FileMaker, and financial systems).  PREFERRED:  MIT experience or experience in higher education.  Job #23426
