Job Description

 

The Psychology Instructor is a 9-month full‐time, faculty position responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of educational instruction in the field of psychology. These responsibilities involve the development and implementation of the syllabus, the achievement of student learning outcomes, the evaluation of student performance, record-keeping, and related activities. Related activities include, but are not limited to, advising, serving on various committees, participating in recruiting and retention efforts, and participating in professional activities and organizations.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology or a Master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in Psychology
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with students

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Psychology
  • Teaching experience at the Community College level
  • Experience with classroom technology
  • Experience with outcome and program assessment Ability to use Microsoft Office, Office 365, Canvas, and Outlook

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Teach psychology-related courses;
  • Prepare, administer, and grade periodic tests, assignments, and/or program assessment data;
  • Teaches students the occupational competencies necessary for employment.
  • Checks, maintains, and reports as required by the College the accurate attendance and absences for each student.
  • Prepares course competency-based outlines for each instructional course or program.
  • Prepares detailed lesson plans for all units of instruction.
  • Recommends changes in the total curriculum in order to maintain an up-to-date program.
  • Develops and maintains the progress of each student in the program.
  • Reviews and selects instructional materials such as textbooks and audio-visual materials.
  • Keeps equipment functioning and in good working order by establishing and effective preventive maintenance system.
  • Takes an active role in the advisement, counseling of students and register students.
  • Serves on various faculty committees.
  • Attends faculty meetings and professional development workshops and training.
  • Maintain a record of student attendance as required by the Mississippi Community College Board.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director, Campus Dean, and Associate VP for Instruction.

 

OTHER RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and support of College policies and procedures
  • Must have the ability and vocabulary required to communicate with all levels of staff, faculty, students, and the public in the performance of the job
  • Significant psychology experience Ability to travel between campus locations
