Job Summary

The Office of the Vice President for Human Resources at Purdue University seeks an HR Business Partner to deliver a full range of HR services to assigned senior leaders and client groups. In this role reporting to the Director, Human Resources, you will have the opportunity to actively engage an advocate within a world class research institution, providing your HR expertise to influence and improve the workplace experience. Our staff supports an exceptional group of faculty, staff, and students, delivering a wide array of services that require responsive and strategic human resource support. This position will be based on the West Lafayette campus and is eligible for a hybrid work opportunity where you will work some on campus and some remotely.

What to Expect in this Role:

  • Serve as a strategic advisor, collaborator, and proactive consultant
  • Serve as a resource and advocate to managers and staff in collaboration with HR units on all aspects of the employment lifecycle: acquisition of diverse talent, engagement and retention, performance and development, change management, and issue resolution
  • Contribute to the business strategy of assigned client groups by providing people leadership and collaboration on operation and strategic initiatives utilizing data and analytics
  • Work with leadership to define, develop and maintain a culture that inspires and fosters faculty and/or staff engagement
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel on best approaches, practices and generate options for achieving desired results ensuring employees and managers are effectively complying with University policies
  • Assess organizational and individual staff development needs. Occasionally develop and/or deliver relevant training

This position can be filled at either the P2 or the P3 level.

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two or more years of HR generalist or business partner experience (P2 level)
  • Four or more years of HR generalist or business partner experience (P3 level)
  • In-depth knowledge and demonstration experience in one or more Human Resource specialty area including: compensation, employee relations, recruitment, training, and organizational development
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to build relationships and establish credibility and trust across all levels of the organization
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, judgment, and decision-making skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Strong analytical and data management skills with the ability to translate data into action planning
  • Demonstrated successful experience in influencing people at senior levels in an organization and providing consultative support to leaders across multiple levels
  • High level of self-initiative and sense of urgency coupled with a strong customer service orientation
  • Successful track record of delivering impactful HR programs and initiatives directly tied to strategic business goals
  • Excellent facilitation and oral/written communication skills; ability to prepare clean and concise reports and deliver formal presentations or training to leadership, employees and managers

 What Is Helpful:

  • Experience as a business partner delivering strategic and tactical HR support in a rigorous higher education environment or in an intellectually demanding data-driven environment
  • Specialized experience and expertise in employee relations, talent acquisition, and/or talent management.
