Job Description:

Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.

The lead faculty for the Associate degree program will effectively fulfill the responsibilities in the areas of teaching, service to the college & students, scholarly and creative engagement, and institutional responsibility. The lead faculty serves as a point of contact for clinical contracts, clinical placements, clinical scheduling, assessment of the curriculum, and related responsibilities or issues related to the academic program.

1. Contribute to all activities related to the mission of the College and Program.
2. Maintain and exhibit mastery of their teaching expertise.
3. Pursue professional and scholarly activities through research, publications, and attendance and/or presentations at professional organizations and functions.
4. Maintain an active role in the program and college activities through individual participation in committee activities and college sponsored events.
5. Support the growth of the college through both formal and informal student recruitment and retention activities.
6. Demonstrate concern and dedication to the education of the students through assessment of courses and alignment with the end of program student learning outcomes.
7. Use personal and professional abilities through participation in public service activities promoting the well-being of individuals and groups within the service region of the college, the state, and the nation.
8. Meet regularly with the dean to communicate all activities within the area of responsibility.
9. Serve as a leader of self-directed work teams consisting of faculty members within the program.
Advise & Progress:
10. Assist in the process of student counseling and advisement in collaboration with the health care advisor and the dean.
11. Counsel students regarding their academic progress throughout the program from admission to graduation.
12. Assist students in academic achievement through support, referral, and educational support.
13. Ensure students’ progress toward graduation in a timely manner in collaboration with the health care advisor by registering for the appropriate sequences of courses each semester.
Curricula:
14. Assist in the planning, implementing, and evaluating the curricula in the program to ensure delivery is in alignment with the student learning outcomes and end of program student learning outcomes.
15. Effectively use a variety of teaching/learning strategies to promote a spirit of inquiry to stimulate student learning.
16. Support the standards of the department, college, and VCCS through the implementation of effective teaching focused on the guiding and developing the students to become entry level professionals.
17. Foster student socialization through incorporation of the mission of the college, the nursing and allied health departments mission and philosophy, individual instruction, and personal guidance.
18. Ensure student test/exams are reviewed by all members of the team for quality assurance and progression toward the NCLEX NextGen format.
19. Ensure study guides/tools are available for students before testing and the material in the exams reflects what has been assigned to the students.
20. Meet with Canvas administrator prior to each semester to ensure the proper shell has been assigned to Ensure the appropriate faculty along with the course copy, review, adjustments are in the shell.
Clinical Coordination:
21. Ensure each student signs the nursing student handbook statement each semester and is placed into the course and/or student file.
22. Organize and maintain nursing student documents for clinical placement in accordance with clinical agency requirements.
23. Develop and complete data tracking forms to document student compliance with clinical and preceptorship requirements.
24. Collaborate with the nursing faculty to organize, schedule, monitor, and keep up to date all clinical placements for faculty and students in the nursing program.
25. Assist with obtaining preceptorships for last semester nursing students.
26. Assist with verifying licenses of preceptors for preceptorships.
27. Network, develop, and maintain strong relationships with clinical and community agencies.
28. Ensure clinical sites are obtained for the program, schedules are sent to the contact person, and contracts are reviewed annually.
29. Ensure the students clinical time matches the prescribed time for each semester.
30. Ensure proper scheduling and communication with clinical faculty.
31. Maintain as the point of contact for clinical faculty and affiliates during clinical for concerns relating to students, clinical faculty, and issues concerning clinical.

Rank and Salary: Rank and salary dependent on academic credentials and work experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in nursing.
2. Two years of clinical experience in nursing.
3. A valid, active, unencumbered Registered Nursing License in Virginia or Compact State.
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students and other college stakeholders.
5. Experience with schedules -preparing, assigning time, and confirmation.
6. Must be able to meet all clinical partner requirements.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

1. VCCS experience in nursing programs.
2. Experience with the concept-based curriculum
3. Experience with active learning environments.
4. Two years prior teaching experience in higher education.
5. Experience with curriculum development and alignment, implementation, and analysis.
