Job Description

The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Lombardo College of Business welcomes applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position beginning August 2024. Responsibilities include teaching, advising students, scholarly or creative work and department and university service. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. Teaching responsibilities may include Managerial Finance, Cases in Finance, Investments, Financial Markets, Behavior Finance, and other finance courses in our general Finance and Wealth Management concentrations; as well as advising students, performing scholarly research, and department and university service. This person will be joining us at an exciting time for our growing college, with new majors, concentrations, and cocurricular initiatives being crafted. We especially value individuals who can lead our wealth management concentration and be a key advisor to the student-led Marauder Fund. Actual course assignments will depend on department needs and will include mixed modalities.
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications as well as aligned with the details contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Millersville University Promotion Statement.
Minimum qualifications required to be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate include having an earned doctorate and a minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience (or its equivalent) and scholarship commensurate with this rank.

Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctoral degree or ABD candidate, with completion required by the date of eligibility to apply for reappointment to second year (1/30/25).
  • A minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in finance.
  • Experience teaching in the field of finance as an instructor of record for at least one face-to-face class.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in finance.
  • Relevant professional designations (ex: CFP, CFA).
  • Experience teaching both introductory and upper-level finance courses.
  • Evidence of current peer-reviewed publications in business journals.
  • A demonstrated record of conducting research with students, consistent with Millersville’s mission as a teaching university.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching across different modalities.
  • Significant relevant experience and accomplishments in the finance industry.

EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND PERFORMANCE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Tenure Track faculty are responsible for teaching Managerial Finance, Cases in Finance, Investments, Financial Markets, Behavior Finance, and other finance courses in our general Finance and Wealth Management concentrations as well as advising students, performing scholarly research, and department and university service.
Faculty are expected to hold regular office hours as well as be able to teach in a variety of delivery modalities.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supervise interns, practicum students and graduate assistants as well as thesis and dissertations. Other reasonable duties assigned within the faculty member’s field of competence. Additionally, faculty are expected to actively engage in curricular development and evaluation as well as co-curricular, assessment, and accreditation activities.

DEPARTMENT
 DESCRIPTION :
The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Lombardo College of Business is comprised of five full-time faculty members. The college has approximately 750 undergraduate students and offers BS degrees in accounting, finance, information technology, marketing, management, and business administration. The Lombardo College of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

 

Essential Functions
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/classroom and/or an online environment depending on the needs of the department.
  • Teach courses face-to-face and/or online using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Speak in a clear voice and hear spoken words.
  • Read and write the written word and higher-level statistics/mathematics.
  • Manage classroom activities.
  • Record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
