Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position in Genetics

Job Description


The Department of Biological Science at Florida State University ( http://www.bio.fsu.edu ) invites applications for a tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in the broadly defined area of Genetics. Candidates who take a molecular or genetics-based approach to study fundamental or innovative questions in developmental biology, mechanisms of disease, or cell biology, using any animal, plant, tissue, or cellular systems will be considered. Successful candidates are expected to establish a productive and extramurally funded research program, such as major NIH or NSF grant funding, and to contribute to undergraduate teaching in genetics, developmental, or cell biology, and graduate education by supervising PhD students. A doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate is required, along with a demonstrated record of achievement in research. Postdoctoral training in the field of specialization is preferred.

The Department: The Department of Biological Science is a diverse and interactive group with more than 40 tenure-track faculty members with expertise in developmental genetics, epigenetics, chromosome biology, neuroscience, evolution, conservation biology, structural biology, and virology. The Department is committed to the success of our faculty with engaged mentoring and significant resources. Researchers have access to excellent and fully staffed departmental and university research facilities that include an imaging facility with a Titan Krios electron microscope, confocal imaging, light sheet microscopy, molecular cloning and hybridoma facilities, flow cytometry and mass spectrometry facilities, and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. The department also maintains BSL2 labs, greenhouses, field sites, and vivaria. The department has three concurrent searches in Genetics, Computational Genomics, and Evolution.
