Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Career Nurse Navigator to provide comprehensive support to associated degree nursing (ADN) and practical nursing (PN) students, assisting them in achieving academic success and successfully transitioning into their nursing careers. As a Career Nurse Navigator, you will serve as a mentor, guide, and resource for nursing students, helping them navigate the challenges of their educational journey and facilitating their entry into the job market.

Job Duties
  • Student Mentorship and Guidance:
      • Serve as a mentor and advocate for ADN and PN students, providing guidance, encouragement, and support throughout their academic program.
      • Assist students in understanding program requirements, course selection, and academic planning to ensure timely progression and successful program completion.
      • Offer individualized support to students facing academic difficulties, developing strategies for improvement and connecting them with relevant resources.
      • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment by promoting collaboration, professional behavior, and cultural sensitivity among students.

     

  • Career Preparation and Job Placement:
    • Facilitate career development activities, such as resume writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies, to enhance students’ employability.
    • Collaborate with faculty and industry professionals to organize networking events, career fairs, and informational sessions to connect students with potential employers.
    • Assist students in exploring different nursing specialties and understanding the requirements and opportunities associated with each.
    • Provide guidance on professional licensure, certification, and continuing education requirements to ensure students are well-prepared for their future careers.
  • Resource Coordination and Referral:
    • Identify and connect students with academic support services, tutoring programs, and counseling resources to address their individual needs and challenges.
    • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement student support initiatives, workshops, and educational materials.
    • Stay informed about local and national nursing organizations, scholarships, and grants, and assist students in accessing relevant funding opportunities.
    • Establish partnerships with healthcare facilities and organizations to facilitate clinical placements, internships, and job shadowing experiences for students.
  • Data Tracking and Evaluation:
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes to track the effectiveness of support services.
    • Collect and analyze data related to student retention, completion rates, and employment outcomes to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Collaborate with program administrators to develop strategies for enhancing student success and program outcomes based on data-driven insights.

Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Degree in nursing (BSN).
(M2) Active, unencumbered Mississippi Registered Nurse (RN) license.
(M3) Two (2) years of experience in nursing.
(M4) Strong understanding of nursing program curricula, academic requirements, and career pathways in the nursing profession.
(M5) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport with students, faculty, and healthcare professionals.
(M6) Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide guidance and support to students facing academic challenges.
(M7) Knowledge of career development practices, job search strategies, and employment trends in the nursing field.
(M8) Familiarity with nursing licensure and certification processes.
(M9) Proficiency in using educational technology, learning management systems, and student information systems.
(M10) Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with advancements in nursing education and career development.

 

Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Experience in nursing education, student support, or related roles is preferred.
(D2)Potential desire to pursue MSN and possibly onboard as full-time nurse faculty.
