Position Description
Job Title: Program Officer
Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Full time, salaried (range $48,000 to $58,000 plus benefits)
JOB SUMMARY
The program officer is responsible for managing and evaluating grants and scholarships programs, and for providing support to other Foundation activities. This position is full-time with the expectation of the majority of time in-person, in-office.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Four-year college degree in non-profit administration, education, public relations or closely related field, with three to five years non-profit managerial experience; knowledge of Erie County, Ohio, preferred.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent management and analytical skills, with a collaborative approach to leadership, strong verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy. Ability to work independently and balance multiple tasks. Comfortable with database management software.
Responsibilities
Grantmaking programs: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, manages the Foundation’s discretionary grants, Donor Advised Fund grants, and Youth Council grant programs. Ensures that grant opportunities are broadly communicated to the general public. Prepares materials and reports for Grants Committee review and for the board. Arranges for site visits and grantee presentations and manages non-profit education sessions.
Monitors and maintains required documentation for due diligence for grants. Keeps abreast of current trends in the field; ensures that all state/federal legal and IRS requirements are met. Facilitates annual review of policies and revises internal grants procedures when appropriate.
Scholarship programs: With the assistance of the Executive Director, manages the Foundation’s scholarship program and maintains records on scholarship funds and student recipients, in compliance with state, federal and IRS requirements. Keeps abreast of current trends and strives to improve the efficiency of scholarship administration as the number of scholarship funds within the Community Foundation is expected to grow.
Serves as staff liaison to the Scholarship Committee, high school and college counselors, donors, and students to increase the number of students applying each year for scholarship assistance. Prepares annual materials and reports for board, staff, committees, and students. Facilitates annual review of scholarship applications materials and guidelines, and revises procedures when appropriate.
Ensures that scholarship opportunities are broadly communicated to the general public, including distribution of information to high school seniors, scholarship committees and school personnel; updating the website; sending press releases; and providing recognition to recipients and donors.
Continues education and professional development by attending conferences and networking with colleagues to improve working knowledge of foundation grant making and communication programs.
Responsible for other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Executive Director.
