Post-Doctoral position in the area of planet formation in protoplanetary disks

Job Description

The Astronomy Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is looking for an excellent post-doctoral candidate to work with Professor Ke Zhang.  The successful applicant will work with Professor Zhang on observations and modeling of chemical and physical evolution in protoplanetary disks. Applicants with expertise in numerical simulations and/or observations in the broad field of star and planet formation are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in chemical evolution modeling, radiative transfer simulations, dust evolution, and/or multi-wavelength observations of protoplanetary disks.

This 100%-time appointment is for an initial period of two years with a possible extension to a total of three years, contingent on funding and performance. The preferred starting date is September 2024, but an earlier or later start date is also possible.

The postdoctoral researcher will have opportunities to mentor graduate/undergraduate students and have access to observational facilities of the department (including NOEMA/IRAM 30m, WIYN, and SALT). Exoplanet and planet formation research is extremely active at UW Madison, including six research groups. The department is also leading the new Wisconsin Center for Origins Research (WiCOR), an interdisciplinary effort to study the origins of life.

Applicants must have a PhD by the starting date in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, planetary science, or a closely related field. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.  Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

The application should include

* a cover letter

* a curriculum vitae, including a list of publications

* a statement of past research experience and future research interest (no more than 3 pages),

* at least 2 reference letters to be sent directly from the writers.

Please send the application materials electronically to ke.zhang@wisc.edu , including "postdoc application" in the subject line. Applications received by January 10, 2024, will be ensured full consideration.
