ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

Green River College's Information Technology/Cybersecurity: Adjunct Instructor – Help shape IT students' futures, every day!

We are seeking adjunct instructors to teach a variety of in-person or online courses, scheduled in the day and/or evening at our Main Auburn campus as well as our Enumclaw branch location.

The Green River IT/Cybersecurity instructional department is looking for a dynamic, knowledgeable addition to our growing team. The Information Technology Bachelor of Applied Science Program in Cybersecurity and Networking is expanding, and we are looking for highly qualified people to train the next generation of professionals.

Position Responsibilities

 

The successful candidate will teach Information Technology courses at a variety of levels Including lecture, lab, or online settings.

The primary teaching responsibilities will include courses covering many of the following topics:
  • PC hardware
  • Networking
  • Microsoft Windows Server administration
  • Linux operating system
  • Scripting in Windows and Linux
  • Programming/Scripting in Python
  • Cisco router and switch administration
  • Network and Computer Security
  • Cloud and Virtualization Technologies
  • DevOps
  • Cybersecurity Analysis
  • and others as technology evolves

A successful instructor in this position will:
  • Create an environment where students can feel safe and can collaborate effectively with, and learn from, their peers.
  • Understand the challenges faced by marginalized groups in tech and work proactively to address those challenges.
  • Take feedback from students and peers as an opportunity to learn and grow as an instructor.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Ability to build constructive professional working relationships characterized by acceptance, cooperation and mutual regard of all stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Knowledge and skills in several of the following: PC Hardware, Networking, Microsoft Operating Systems, Active Directory, Linux, Cisco networking equipment, virtualization, cloud, scripting, security, and cybersecurity analysis.
  • Three years of relevant work experience during the past 5 years.
  • Excitement for technology, and interest in keeping current with leading-edge technologies appropriate to the program curriculum.
  • Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds and those with disabilities.
  • Maintain ethics, integrity, and use sound professional judgment.
  • Knowledge of issues involving the underrepresentation of marginalized groups in tech.

Health Benefits:
Adjunct faculty may become eligible for benefits if they work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only).

Newly-hired adjunct faculty are eligible for PEBB insurance benefits when they have taught 50 percent or more of a full-time workload* for two consecutive quarters at one or more public higher education institutions, going on benefits the start of the second quarter at 50% or more. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the Public Employees Benefits Board.

Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIAA-CREF) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice. The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIAA-CREF) is 50 percent of a full-time workload* at one or more college districts or the State Board for two consecutive quarters. There may be other options available under limited circumstances.

Leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.

  • Half time is defined as one-half of the full-time academic workload as determined by each institution, except that half time for community and technical colleges faculty employees is governed by RCW 28B.50.489.
