The Division of Animal Resources is seeking to hire a Vet Scientist at the Associate Vet Scientist or Assistant Vet Scientist level. The level of Vet Scientist position offered to the selected finalist will be determined after the completion of the interview processes and based on related education and experience as outlined below by the minimum qualifications associated with each position. Please take note of the varying job responsibilities between each level.

ASSOCIATE VET SCIENTIST

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Associate Staff Veterinary Scientist may perform all the duties of an Assistant Staff Veterinary Scientist and has increasing technical, management, leadership, and professional expertise. The Associate Staff Veterinary Scientist is responsible for the operation of a major program within the DAR, possibly including but not limited to the pathology laboratory and quality assurance, the DAR training program, or clinical medicine services. The management of direct or indirect reports is required. Investigates and recommends potential alternative approaches to improve the quality of results. Leadership and Management training will be supported. Demonstrates increased responsibility through management of teams and leadership of projects by applying advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development, as well as facilitating in some training aspects of other lab members. Oversees quality assurance of work conducted by other staff members. May assist in grant and other funding applications as necessary and appropriate, or with approval of the responsible faculty director, may have their own research projects and/or have full responsibilities for specific programmatic areas within the DAR. With the approval of the responsible faculty director, may be principal investigators on funded proposals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: DVM or equivalent with 6 years experience in laboratory animal medicine 2 of which have supervisory responsibilities, ACLAM diplomate, licensed to practice veterinary medicine in GA.

ASSISTANT STAFF VET SCIENTIST

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Staff Veterinary Scientist performs a wide range of clinical and preventative veterinary medical services as needed. Such care will include clinical services to a variety of species. Areas of possible oversight include managed breeding, and clinical, surgical and anesthesia services. The Assistant Staff Veterinary Scientist will provide investigator support through advice and assistance regarding the conduct of animal studies, and will support university committees and activities impacting animal resources (e.g. the IACUC, chemical, radiation and biosafety committees). Teaching responsibilities will include the instruction of veterinary residents, veterinary technicians, animal care technicians, research staff and other necessary parties. The incumbent will assist in the maintenance of proper records and the generation of reports, applications, grants and the like. Prepare for and pass the ACLAM specialty board examination. Expected to show scholarship and service to the university as appropriate. The management of direct or indirect reports may be required and training in the supervision of others is expected. Other duties, services and responsibilities as assigned. Demonstrated ability to function as part of a team in a team science context.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A DVM/VMD degree; eligibility to become licensed in GA is required, with 2 years experience or training in laboratory animal medicine (may include Postdoctoral Residency), and ACLAM board-eligible.
