Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Development Specialist II for the Zimmerli Art Museum. This position supports fundraising and stewardship of donors, alumni, museum members and friends of the Zimmerli Art Museum.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Staffs the Zimmerli Advisory Board, provides assistance with grant reporting and proposals, strategizes, manages, and implements annual membership plan and membership benefit fulfillment including events, and provides administrative support for the development office, including drafting donor acknowledgement letters.
  • Performs professional work that requires knowledge of grant applications and reporting, event implementation, donor cultivation and stewardship, including updating and tracking donor lists and credit lines for exhibitions and programs.
  • Fields donor and member related inquiries and requests.
  • Manages all aspects of donor/member related events.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years relevant work experience in a professional setting.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent written and communication skills and strong interpersonal skills; highly diplomatic.
  • Understanding of Advancement, organization, coordination, facilitation and/or reporting principles and practices necessary.
  • Enterprising and creative self-starter.
  • Ability to multi-task, work quickly when necessary, self-directed with strong problem-solving skills and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • B.A. or B.S. preferably in Art History, Marketing, English, or Business.
  • Previous experience in advancement, membership, or marketing function at a cultural institution or non-profit.
  • Experience with grant proposal process and reporting.
  • Preferred experience in non-profit fundraising, knowledge of membership marketing and audience development practices.
Equipment Utilized
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Internet required and ability to navigate customized databases.
  • Comfortable setting up Zoom meetings and Webinars.
  • Familiarity with MailChimp, Paperless Post, InDesign, and Project Management software is a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • May need to do some light lifting of materials for events and able to stand for long periods of time for receptions.
Special Conditions
  • Some evenings and weekends required.
