We invite applications for a joint postdoctoral position with Prof. Robyn Sanderson at University of Pennsylvania and Prof. Mariangela Lisanti at Princeton University to study galaxy formation and dynamics in the context of different dark matter models. Applicants must have a PhD in physics, astrophysics, or a closely related field by the start of the position. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate in their application:

• Experience working with hydrodynamical or N-body simulations
• A working knowledge of galactic dynamics and/or dark matter phenomenology
• A record of research independence, accomplishment and creativity
• Experience working in a team, including specific actions that have contributed to an inclusive environment

The successful candidate will be appointed for 2 years as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Penn and as a Visiting Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Physics at Princeton, with a possible 1-year extension. The postdoc will be expected to spend minimum two days per week at each institution; the two sites are 1h15m apart by car or public transportation. The position is expected to start in September 2024 (exact date negotiable). 

Penn’s Department of Physics & Astronomy hosts the Center for Particle Cosmology , a vibrant and diverse group of researchers in astrophysics and particle theory. Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences also supports the Data Driven Discovery Initiative , which connects researchers using machine learning and data-driven techniques across disciplines. At Princeton, the Center for Statistics and Machine Learning provides programming associated with interdisciplinary data science. The successful applicant for this position will have the opportunity to participate in all three Centers.
