The Adjunct Visiting Lecturer in Accounting is responsible to teach courses in Accounting and Business Statistics for the Spring 2024 semester (January 23, 2024-May 18, 2024). Adjunct instructors are responsible for teaching 4 credit hours per course.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing material for the classes, grading assignments submitted in connection with the classes, holding an office hour for each course taught to assist students as needed. The course may be live, asynchronous on-line, or synchronous on-line, depending on the needs of the department. While course materials are provided, adjunct instructors are expected to update and organize the material as needed.

Adjunct instructors may be required to attend occasional meetings.

Essential Functions

 

  • Plan weekly course meetings and/or materials.
  • Prepare syllabus for the course and communicate course plan with Department Chair.
  • Teach four hours of class in live or synchronous classes or provide equivalent content in asynchronous classes.
  • Evaluate student progress towards achievement of learning objectives.
  • Provide opportunities for students to receive feedback on their progress and assist students with identified areas of concern.
  • Meet with students in an office hour to assist as needed.
  • Update and organize curricular materials as needed.
  • Provide materials for students on-line in a Brightspace course, or other Learning Management System.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively in team environment.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students, faculty, and staff.
  • A strong working knowledge of financial accounting, managerial accounting, and business application of these subjects.
  • A strong technology proficiency, experience with Banner, Bright Space, and textbook applications is preferred.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • A Bachelors in Accounting with a Masters in Business, Accounting or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with a Bachelors in Business will be considered if they have had coursework in intermediate accounting and a Masters in Business or if they have a Masters in Accounting.
  • Some teaching experience or a demonstrated ability to teach the material.
  • Recent work experience as an accountant or in a financial field is highly desired.
