Postdoctoral fellow position in the Department of Kinesiology— Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington
A postdoctoral position in the IU Biomechanics Lab, under the direction of Dr. Allison Gruber, will become available contingent on the renewal of an existing research contract. This is an industry-funded position for a minimum of one year and is renewable each year the industry contract is renewed. The position includes benefits and compensation congruent with NIH stipend levels. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, but applications received by 15 November 2023 will be given full consideration. The search will remain open until suitable candidate is found. The earliest anticipated start date is 15 January 2024.
The focus of the industry-funded project is the effect of footwear on neuromuscular function, fatigue, and habitual joint movement during running and the etiology of running-related injuries. This project involves prospective research studies including motion capture, wearable technology, dynamometry, metabolic, and physical activity experiments in healthy adults.
About us: The IU Biomechanics lab (https://iubiomechanicslab.weebly.com/ ) specializes in lower extremity gait biomechanics, with a focus on running biomechanics and running-related injury. The lab is equipped with a motion capture system with force plates imbedded in the level-ground runway and an instrumented treadmill. Additional equipment includes high-resolution accelerometers, an in-shoe pressure system, force sensing insoles, research-grade physical activity monitors, inertial measurement units, electromyography, and a dynamometer. The Imaging Research Facility (IRF), located across the street, has a Siemens Prisma MRI system and associated computing system exclusively for research use, as well as a mock MRI scanner for subject training (https://www.indiana.edu/~irf/home/ ). The IRF employs a full-time MR physicist and technicians who runs the scanner.

Basic Qualifications
Applicants with a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in exercise science, kinesiology, engineering or related field are invited to apply. ABD will be considered for interview but a terminal degree from an accredited educational institution must be earned by the start date. Experience with human subjects research is required, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Candidates should possess strong scientific writing skills and programming skills (e.g. MATLAB). The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic scientist, a good teammate, and have demonstrated exceptional potential.

Additional Qualifications
The successful applicant will be expected to lead studies and generate new knowledge that is consistent with the overall goal of the funded project. This includes generating peer-reviewed publications. Resources are available for travel to scientific meetings and formal training is available with regards to grant writing, research ethics, rigor and reproducibility, and clinical trial management. There will also be opportunities to develop your own independent research interests. The successful applicant will be exposed to other studies in the laboratory, which will involve additional aspects of the biomechanics of human locomotion.
