Professionals receiving a doctoral degree in psychology should be capable of extending psychological knowledge and exhibiting the high level of analytic skills and theoretical understanding needed to use existing and emerging psychological knowledge.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) for the Psychopathology and Interpersonal Functioning Lab. The RA will coordinate and implement a federally funded research project focused on increasing understanding of social disconnection in late life.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Prepares IRB applications, renewals and amendments.
  • Responsible for recruiting, screening, scheduling, and maintaining ongoing contact with participants for the federally funded research project.
  • Consents for research participants and assists in ongoing data collection and extraction.
  • Oversees data management (including data tracking, entry and curation, basic analysis).
  • Trains and coordinates volunteer students to support daily administrative research tasks (e.g., conduct literature review, input references, formatting tables and figures).
  • Supports scientific publication and grant submission (e.g., conduct literature review, input references, formatting tables and figures).

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • B.A. in psychology or related field.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Previous experience working in the area of human subjects research (particularly project coordination).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Must possess skills in word processing, excel, and data analytic programs (e.g., SPSS, R).
  • Must possess knowledge of general principles and practices within clinical psychology or related fields and the ability to use that knowledge for practical application.
  • Must have experience with developing and maintaining research databases (e.g., Excel, Qualtrics, REDCap).
  • Must have experience interacting with diverse populations and strong communication skills as the position will take a leadership role in working with participants and recruitment partners in the greater New Jersey area.
  • Must have strong organization and time-management skills as this person will take a leadership role in coordinating and implementing the federally funded research project.
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.A., or M.S. in psychology or related field.
  • Experience and/or training in interviewing and diagnostic assessment with adults is strongly desired.
  • Experience collecting data through the use of standard assessments and/or distribution of surveys.
  • Proficiency using SPSS or equivalent programs.
  • Previous research experience (particularly project coordination).
  • Experience with management of clinical research data using Qualtrics, REDCap, or equivalent program.
  • Knowledge of general principles and practices within psychology or a related field and the ability to use that knowledge for practical application.
  • Familiarity with SPSS, R, SAS, and/or MPlus.
  • Experience and/or training in interviewing and diagnostic assessment.
