Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Medical Technologist/Point of Care Coordinator for the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Department within Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of clinical professionals, the Medical Technologist/Point of Care Coordinator assists with the implementation and monitoring of clinical laboratory programs administered by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This position requires strict adherence to UMDNJ Compliance requirements and to all HIPPA requirements as implemented.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Visits Point of Care testing locations throughout New Jersey to inspect, re-supply, train and evaluate counseling and testing personnel on Point of Care procedures, including Rapid HIV1/2.
  • Assesses Quality Control (QC) testing and Quality Assurance activities according to Laboratory protocols.
  • Resolves Quality Control failures during site visits. Documents the results of site inspection and QC failures. Brings significant problems to the attention of supervisory personnel.
  • Answers questions, troubleshoots technical and specimen problems at POCT locations. Investigates clinical laboratory problems, explores corrective options, and formulates an appropriate course of action.
  • Carries out corrective actions at the direction of the laboratory directors.
  • Reports findings of on-site visits to the laboratory directors.
  • Collects technical data to complete required reports for accrediting and regulatory agencies including.
  • Assists with maintaining reagent and supply inventory at Point of Care locations. Notifies supervisory personnel of serious or potentially serious inventory problems. Works with administrative staff to insure continuity of supply.
  • Runs training sessions at NJ DHSS Division of HIV Counseling and Testing sites and occasionally at outside conference facilities, as requested.
  • Effectively communicates, encouraging cooperation and assistance in a clear and courteous manner.
  • Prepares reports and spreadsheets containing findings, analyses, recommendations and conclusions as requested by clinical professionals.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, science, or health-related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical testing experience, preferably in infectious disease serology.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Driver’s license -satisfactory to drive a state vehicle.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comply with personnel requirements for a clinical technologist as described in the New Jersey State Sanitary Code 8:44-2.6c.
  • Experience required with word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Point of Care oversight experience.
  • ASCP certification.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Travel is needed to other counseling and testing sites, in private or departmental vehicle (if available). This travel may constitute up to 75% FTE. Because the individual will be responsible for re-supplying individual POCT sites, some lifting of boxes weighing between 5-25 lbs. is anticipated. Significant telephone and email communication are required. Employee carries files and other paperwork, and must bend to file materials. Additional work from a personal computer is required and keyboard activities are substantial.

  • WORK ENVIORNMENT: Because of travel requirements, the work environment changes constantly varying from relatively quiet to very noisy, from rural New Jersey to urban settings.
