Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Academic Tutor is responsible for tutoring the adult and/or student learner or a small group of learners at a technical college.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Tutors students to strengthen academic and technical skills to ensure learning increases in the core academic and technical subjects;
  • Provides supportive services to those students who are academically challenged;
  • Helps students develop math skills, science-related skills, and/or mastering course-related computer software packages;
  • Oversees lab, develops resources, and advises students;
  • Plans, develops, and monitors annual budgets for equipment, supplies, and other needs;
  • Maintains an accurate inventory;
  • Prepares all pertinent documents related to the tutoring lab;
  • Participates in assessment, planning, budgeting, and staff development;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, math education, or science-related field; significant experience in an educational/instructional setting; and available for morning, afternoon, and evening tutoring services in multiple counties.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in mathematics, math education, or science-related field; successful history of teaching at the post-secondary level; and strong computer skills.

Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned
