Position Summary:


The Department of Art & Design at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University,New Brunswick, New Jersey invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Design at the level of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024. The interdisciplinary department fosters and integrates a full and dynamic range of studio art and design practices and seeks an individual who pursues studio practice in design grounded in scientific, aesthetic, political or social research, informed by critical perspectives in contemporary art and design.
Leveraging its geographic placement between New York City and Philadelphia, the Department of Art & Design is committed to supporting inclusivity, difference, equity, and excellence in a vibrant pedagogical and artistic community situated in one of the country's most diverse research universities. Art & Design encourages applications from underrepresented groups in academia and the arts, including but not limited to individuals of color, diverse gender identities and expressions, first-generation college and higher education students, designers with disabilities, and those with non-traditional and exceptional pathways to teaching and the arts. The successful candidate will demonstrate the cultural and critical competencies to support and engage this rich multiplicity of artistic practice and student life and will have interests that align with a commitment to public education and the arts.
The search committee is particularly interested in designers working within computational, experimental, collaborative, interdisciplinary and emerging fields in design. In addition to teaching, other duties associated with this role include: student recruitment, curriculum development, mentoring, overseeing graduate assistants, and serving on departmental, school and university committees.

Minimum Education and Experience:


Candidates should have a robust, creative, intellectually and critically engaged design practice as evidenced by recognition that may include publications, commissions, exhibitions, biennial participations, awards and/or collaborative projects. The successful candidate should be committed to teaching and engagement in an interdisciplinary art and design department within a large, diverse, public research university.
Required qualifications:
  • MFA or an equivalent academic degree
  • Teaching experience at BFA and MFA levels

Preferred qualifications:
  • Professional and artistic recognition, publications, commissions, exhibitions and awards
