Position Summary:

Dr. Zhu-Lin Xie Research Group of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the area of synthetic inorganic chemistry performing research towards developing new transition metal complexes for photodrive or electrodriven catalysis applied in energy conversion and small molecule activation. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in synthetic inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, or photochemistry.

The research objectives in the Xie Group are developing novel transition metal complexes, including molecular and supramolecular systems, and applying them in energy, environment, and health. More information on our research can be found at: https://xieresearchlab.com/ .

Essential Functions

  • Design and synthesize new mononuclear and dinuclear transition metal complexes.
  • Investigate electrocatalysis or photocatalysis promoted by these complexes.
  • Characterize the catalysts and reaction intermediates using various spectroscopic methods.
  • Supervise and train entry-level lab members.
  • Prepare scientific reports for journal publications and present research discoveries at conferences.
  • Assist the PI in the process of grant proposal writing.
  • Share group responsibilities such as instrument maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, electrochemistry, or photochemistry.
• Maximum two years since awarding of degree
• Proficiency with synthetic skills including air-free, moisture-free synthetic techniques, organic synthesis, transition metal complex synthesis.
• Hands-on experience with structural characterization and spectroscopic techniques, such as single crystal XRD, NMR, FTIR, UV-vis, and other spectroscopic methods.
• Knowledge and experience with electrochemical and photochemical techniques applied in the context of catalysis.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision.
