Scientific Director, of Neuropathology Core Laboratory Faculty Position

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) in Los Angeles has an outstanding faculty opportunity for a Director for the Neuropathology Core Laboratory in conjunction with the Jona Goldrich Center for Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders.

Specifications

The Jona Goldrich Center for Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders at CSMC is seeking a leader who is committed to excellence in translational research, open to continuous learning and is an effective communicator who thrives in team-based settings. The identified candidate will be expected to build the neuropathology biobank, create protocols, provide support and consultation for scientific initiatives related to the use of central nervous system tissues, serum and CSF, and collaboratively contribute to neuroscience research projects and initiatives while having the opportunity to develop or continue an independent research program. For the appropriate candidate, the position comes with outstanding research space, a collaborative scientific environment, and a competitive start-up package.

Minimum position requirements include a medical degree (MD or equivalent) with fellowship training in neuropathology and expertise in the histopathologic and molecular diagnostic evaluation of brain and spinal cord needed to make accurate ADRD diagnoses. The successful candidate will be expected to formulate clear and detailed neuropathology diagnostic reports after brain donation for distribution to next-of-kin and investigators and have expertise in biorepository operations or a related field. Previous experience in an NIH-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) is desired but not required.

Other departmental and institutional resources available include cores for cellular phenotyping, genome sequencing, animal model development and studies, single cell sequencing, proteomic analysis, flow cytometry, high performance computing, and computational analyses.

 The successful candidate will be eligible for faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with their experience and will have an established track record of leadership and academic productivity. There will be ample opportunity to teach and mentor Ph.D. students, clinical trainees, and postdoctoral fellows who are affiliated with CSMC training programs. Our compensation philosophy

We offer competitive total compensation that includes pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees.  The total pay range shown considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including knowledge/skills; relevant experience and training; education/certifications/licensure; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role. We also offer a comprehensive faculty benefits package.

Pay Range: $230,000 - $330,000 Total Cash Compensation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1.    Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with fellowship training in neuropathology and expertise in the histopathologic and molecular diagnostic criteria to make accurate ADRD diagnoses.

2.    Ability to formulate clear and detailed neuropathology diagnostic reports for next-of-kin, clinical and research dissemination.

3.    Experience in biorepository operations or related field.

4.    Computer competency comprised of working knowledge of windows and/or a comparable operating system that sufficiently provides for access to patient and other business information.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL CAPABILITIES:

1.    Demonstrated history of extramural grant support as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator.

2.    Experience with biobanking information management system (eg. LabVantage or similar system).
