Position Details
Wesleyan University has approximately 2,900 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The office of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) operates on a weekday schedule of 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM with limited evening appointments, as well as 24/7 clinician access through an on-call rotation.
Outreach is included in the services provided and is essential to the community health model to which CAPS adheres. CAPS provides education, consultation, and training to students, faculty, and staff.
Reporting to the Director of CAPS, the Psychologist/Training Program Supervisor maintains administrative and clinical responsibility for CAPS’ pre-doctoral externship program and postdoctoral fellowship program including clinical supervision of pre-doctoral and postdoctoral trainees. The Psychologist/Training Program Supervisor conducts individual and group therapy, psychological assessment as needed, crisis assessment and intervention, and mental health consultation. The Psychologist/Training Program Supervisor provides outreach programming on a variety of mental health issues supporting the university mission and goals.
Typical duties include:
  • Organize the review of postdoctoral fellowship applications, interviewing of postdoctoral candidates, and onboarding of successful candidate at the start of each academic year;
  • Provide individual supervision to the postdoctoral fellow for clinical activities, extern supervision, cognitive assessment, and didactic/teaching responsibilities;
  • Organize the review of externship applications, interviewing of extern candidates, and onboarding of successful candidates at the start of each academic year;
  • Oversee and manage externship training program, including clinical, outreach, and didactic activities;
  • Maintain required communication with the academic programs of all pre-doctoral externs;
  • Provide individual supervision to at least one extern;
  • Monitor performance of all pre-doctoral externs throughout the training year;
  • Oversee and maintain all CAPS records pertinent to the training of pre-doctoral externs;
  • Provide individual and group psychotherapy for a proportionately reduced caseload of students with a wide range of mental health concerns, as well as consultation to students, administrators, faculty, and staff;
  • Provide education, outreach, prevention, and training services to student groups, faculty, and administrators (deans, residence life, public safety, etc);
  • Work with student groups and others to effectively develop programs of interest;
  • Maintain clinical records in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards;
  • Complete other projects and special duties as assigned;
  • Work one evening per week to meet the limited evening availability offered by CAPS;
  • Participate in the on-call rotation.

This position works full time (37.5 hours per week) for 43 weeks per year with 9 weeks off in the summer.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist in CT or eligible for immediate licensure in CT
Training and experience in the provision of clinical supervision
Demonstrated experience with clinical program development
Demonstrated experience working with clients who present with an array of psychiatric issues
Experience and comfort working with clients with diverse identities
Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interacting
collaboratively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated excellent communication skills
This position is required to work on campus.

Preferred Qualifications
3 years licensed experience
Experience working in a university mental health setting
Clinical administrative experience
Experience supervising trainees
