Project Coordinator, Walkout! Lab for Youth Justice (Remote)

The Stanford Graduate School of Education (GSE) seeks a full-time Project Coordinator who brings a combination of research experience, interest, and administrative skill to collaborate with the Walkout! Lab for Youth Justice. The Walkout! Lab for Youth Justice is a data driven lab that works across disciplines and institutions to produce action-oriented research and policy. We partner with multiply-marginalized Black, Indigenous, and Youth of Color to dismantle the criminalization of youth across education geographies. Our Project Coordinator will join an intergenerational research team including faculty, postdoctoral fellows, doctoral, masters, and undergraduate and high school students to further our research mission and collaborate with our community partners. ABOUT US

Based at the Stanford University Center for Comparative Studies and Race and Ethnicity, the Walkout! Lab for Youth Justice works across educational spaces where multiply-marginalized youth are educated, including public schools and youth prisons. The Walkout! Lab targets the most entrenched inequities in education by centering those most impacted, multiply-marginalized Black, Indigenous, and Youth of Color, through innovative thinking and creative partnerships. Under the direction of faculty at the Graduate School of Education and the Stanford School of Law, the Walkout! Lab works across educational spaces where multiply-marginalized youth are educated, including public schools and youth prisons. Project affiliates include formerly incarcerated youth, community partners, graduate students, researchers and faculty.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to Professor Subini Annamma at the Graduate School of Education, the Project Coordinator will organize administrative work for three specific projects within the Walkout! Lab. Using sharp organizational skills and effective communication, the Project Coordinator will manage confidential data and assist in building and maintaining partnerships with school districts, state departments of youth justice, and carceral facilities. Typical job responsibilities include scheduling and coordinating logistics for partnership and lab meetings, writing IRBs and MOUs, advising/delegating workload to team members and completing project-related budgetary responsibilities.

In this role, you will:

● Create protocols for research, including data collection and management processes (e.g. electronic docusign for assent and consent)

● Assist in designing experiments, exercising independent initiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high-level assignments, including activities such as defining variables, formulating hypotheses, and selecting subjects, sources of information, or planning and coordinating experimental protocols.

● Adapt or work out the details of new, nonstandard procedures, with Dr. Annamma, the project manager, and research team members providing general guidance and suggestions.

● Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using qualitative and/or statistical techniques.

● Engage in creative problem solving and make decisions that affect the direction of the research and result in independent contributions to the overall project.

● Engaging creative problem solving for new challenges that arise as research unfolds

● Co-authoring sections of research publications, policy briefs, and reports as needed

● Supporting in collecting and analyzing qualitative data once trained, when needed

● Co-author sections of research publications, policy briefs, and reports as needed.

● Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.


To be successful in this position, you will bring:

● Bachelor’s degree in an applicable social science related field and two years applicable experience, or combination of

education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.

● Comprehensive understanding of critical qualitative methodological frameworks

● General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.

● Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment; ability to thoughtfully make decisions in the absence of clear instructions.

● Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance and demonstrated ability to seek clarification when needed.

● Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.

● Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

● Ability to work with human study participants.

● Developing supervisory skills.

● Comfortable with project management skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes

● Ability to work independently, and speak up when clarification is needed

Preferred qualifications include:

● Advanced degree with evidence of strong research and administration skills.

● Intermediate to advanced technical skills in leveraging productivity tools and software (MS Office, Google Suite, DocuSign, Adobe, PDFs) to manage projects and virtual paperwork.

This role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University has five Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.

Specific duties and responsibilities may vary depending on department or program needs without changing the general nature and scope of the job or level of responsibility. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned.

The expected pay range for this position is $59,000 to $82,000 per annum.

This is a fixed-term position with an end date of one year and is renewable based on performance and funding
