Title Post-Doctoral Fellow
Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track
Department IU Bloomington Psychological & Brain Sciences
Location Bloomington
Position Summary
Postdoctoral fellow in the neurophysiology of navigation and memory

The Newman Memory Lab at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a postdoctoral position to complete an NIH-funded study on the neurobiological mechanisms of navigation and memory. Our lab recently demonstrated that hippocampal-dependent spatial memories are formed while rats rear on up their hind legs during navigation (details available here ). A highly motivated scientist experienced with high-density electrophysiology in freely behaving rats is sought to help design and conduct experiments to study the neuronal activation dynamics that occur during these rearing epochs. The position is sponsored by an NIH research grant.
Postdoctoral fellows are provided state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to their experiments, office space, workstations, and travel funds to present at meetings. Salary is commensurate with experience and contribution per NIH stipend guidelines.
A PhD in neuroscience or related discipline, substantial experience with in-vivo single-unit electrophysiology, and fluency in related analyses are necessary. Expertise in topics related to navigation, memory, and the entorhinal-hippocampal circuit is strongly preferred. Prior experience with rodent memory tasks and computational modeling is preferred.
Interested candidates should apply on https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/20340 and include a cover letter, their CV with a list of publications, brief statement of research interests and their possible start dates. For full consideration, materials should be submitted by October 15, 2023. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2024.
For additional information and informal inquiries, please contact Dr. Ehren Newman (ehnewman@indiana.edu). We strive for a diverse and inclusive environment and encourage applications from members of any identity. More information about our lab: https://memlab.sitehost.iu.edu.
