GHC is the community college that serves both Grays Harbor and Pacific counties on the Pacific coast of Washington. We are located in Aberdeen, on Grays Harbor, at the base of the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. We are less than an hour away from scenic Pacific Ocean beaches, and not far from both Olympic and Rainier National Parks. Grays Harbor provides the perfect landscape to enjoy the abundance of excellent outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, biking, fishing, clam digging, surfing, boating, and various kayak/canoe paddling opportunities.

The 7 members of GHC's Nursing Department work in beautiful Schermer building, which we share with GHC's Science, Math and Art programs. Our offices are located near each other on the second floor and our classrooms are furnished with comfortable student work spaces and state of the art educational technology. Our large practice lab offers versatile work spaces and high technology including a high fidelity simulation lab. We work together as a department on curriculum development, outcomes measurement and teaching core improvements. In all of these areas we are committed to student success as our guiding principle.

We hope to attract candidates for this position who have a passion for nursing education, who can professionally communicate using language which is both accurate and accessible to our students, and who would endeavor with us to improve individually, as a department, and as a college.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
GHC is looking for a talented, energetic, and dedicated full-time tenure track faculty member to teach a variety of nursing topics. The primary teaching assignment will include common and complex medical surgical concepts in the classroom and clinical. Additional responsibilities will include academic student advising, program outcomes assessment, committee work, and other duties as assigned. The position will begin in January 3, 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in affairs of the Nursing Department, the college, and the community.

This is a full-time, tenure-track position. The placement on the salary schedule for 174 Day Contract will be determined by education and experience at the time of hire with additional stipends for nursing faculty. Full-time faculty will also receive 1 day of sick leave per month and 5 days of personal leave days a year.

Faculty positions at Grays Harbor College have been designated as bargaining unit positions represented by the Grays Harbor College Federation of Teachers, Local 4984. The faculty union and the college have a bargaining unit agreement (referred to as the contract) that is posted on the GHC website at https://www.ghc.edu/hr/labor-relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Teach areas of nursing including common and complex medical surgical nursing topics as needed. Duties will also include quarterly assignments in clinical instruction taking place in a variety of healthcare or lab settings; primarily set in an acute medical/ surgical facility.
  • Develop, maintain and enrich assigned common and complex medical/surgical courses.
  • Participate as a team member in ongoing program assessment and review for quality and professional currency.
  • Participate in the development and offering of curriculum and course offerings employing different modalities.
  • Create a classroom/clinical environment conducive to learning that meets the needs of students and employs appropriate instructional methods.
  • Mentor and remediate students who need additional practice with selected skills.
  • Collaborate with other faculty in the selection of learning resources (including texts, equipment and technology) to support curriculum.
  • Serve on college committees as necessary.
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Act as a resource for adjunct faculty.
  • Advise students in pre-nursing and nursing pathways.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing or ability to qualify for state waiver.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated success teaching nursing concepts to college students.
  • Shows strong evidence of the potential to successfully teach Nursing concepts and clinical throughout our program.
  • Current medical/surgical nursing experience of three years.
  • An active, unencumbers Washington state registered nurse license.
  • Active basic CPR certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience teaching Nursing courses to college students.
  • Active ACLS certification and/or Certified Nurse Educator.
  • Current knowledge of simulation in nursing, as well as, knowledge of simulation equipment.
  • Experience in outcomes assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with adult learners.
  • Experience and/or willingness to learn to instruct using evolving technology and hybrid modalities.
