The Department of English at the University of Delaware invites applications for a Continuing Track (non-tenure) Assistant Professor of ESL Composition to instruct ESL/multilingual students in the University’s first-year writing course (capped for these sections at 15 students); teach and plan advanced writing courses; and create programming across campus to support the teaching of writing for undergraduate and graduate ESL students. Additional responsibilities include mentoring and training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to teach second-language learners, and planning, leading, and managing partnerships across campus to address ESL student needs.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Composition & Rhetoric, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Second Language Studies, or a related discipline, and evidence at least one academic year (9 months, full- or part-time) of teaching first-year composition to ESL students at the postsecondary level.

In addition to the English major and several interdisciplinary minors, we offer a strong English Education major that prepares students to be NCATE-certified secondary education teachers of English. We offer two 4+1 programs as well that allow English majors to earn a BA in English followed by an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language, or an MA/MPA in public policy/public administration. Our faculty are given strong support to develop educational opportunities that engage our students within and beyond the classroom.
