Research Scientist, The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research

Job Description



The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the University of Virginia is seeking a PhD-trained Research Scientist with four plus years of experience in clonal hematopoiesis. The work requires significant knowledge concerning genome instability, including understanding the literature on hematopoiesis and cardiometabolic disease. Additionally, the positions require experience in cell biology, transgenic mouse disease models, molecular biology, and phenotypic analyses. 


 


The incumbents will assist with managing an extensive mouse colony, which houses over 500 cages and 20 unique breeding strains. A high degree of involvement and management with common mouse experimental methods will be expected, including genotyping, phenotyping, and maintenance of detailed breeding records. 


 


Job responsibilities include: 


  • The incumbents will participate in various relevant lab projects and write study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications and are expected to develop research programs as time permits.  

  • The incumbents will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CVRC-related seminars and work with graduate students, technicians, fellows, and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project. 


 


QUALIFICATIONS 


Applicants must have a Ph.D. at the time of hire and be eligible to work in the United States. 


 


Preferred experience: 


Candidates must demonstrate a high competency in various molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qRT-PCR, and gene cloning, and cell biology techniques such as cell culture, flow cytometry and protein analysis (western blot and ELISA). 


 


This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
