JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Neurosurgery, in Hershey, PA is immediately seeking a postdoctoral position to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI). In particular, we aim to study the mechanisms underlying aberrant ER stress and autophagy, and dysregulation of cell-cell interactions between CNS neurons, microglia, and astrocytes, and their contribution to neuroinflammation and neuro-immune dysfunction in both stroke and TBI pathology. Combined approaches including experimental models of stroke and TBI, cell cultures (in vitro BBB/TBI model), behavioral tests, advanced brain imaging (3D MRI, confocal laser-scanning microscope), immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, neurovascular biology, and molecular biology are employed.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. (or M.D.) in Basic Science, Biomedical Science, or a related field, and a record of publication success. Experience in neuroscience research, conditional knock-out mice, CRISPR-CAS9-based gene editing, and performing MCAO and TBI models is preferred. Candidates should be highly motivated and quick learner to learn new research technology and have strong oral and written communication ability and good organizational skills.
