Location: Parkville 
Role type: Full-time; Continuing 
Faculty: Arts 
School: Languages and Linguistics 
Salary: Level B – $114,645 – $136,136 p.a. plus 17% super 

  • Teach at a variety of academic levels, conduct research, and engage in professional activities within the field of linguistics and applied linguistics

About the Role 

This role offers a distinctive blend of teaching and research in linguistics and applied linguistics, engaging with students while conducting research and contributing to the evolution of language and culture studies. You will also contribute to coordinating award programs, promoting scholarly inquiry, and adapting teaching methods. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials and seminars 
  • Supervise honours, masters, and higher degree research students  
  • Subject coordination, including initiating, developing, and reviewing subject material at undergraduate and postgraduate levels 
  • Engage in high-quality research, contributing to scholarly publications, and actively participating in research seminars and national and international conferences 

Who We Are Looking For

You will have a strong academic background in linguistics and applied linguistics, with a track record of high-quality research and a commitment to effective teaching, along with the ability to adapt to the needs of a diverse student cohort.

You will also have:

  • A completed PhD in Applied Linguistics or a related area  
  • Demonstrated expertise in high quality research in Applied Linguistics focusing on technology in second language learning, teaching and/or assessment with a developing publication profile  
  • Ability to provide research-informed teaching across levels from first year to PhD, and in a range of topics in Applied Linguistics, including areas such as discourse and interaction, quantitative research methods, intercultural communication, and second language learning and teaching   
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and a commitment to fostering exceptional research
