Summary of Job Duties:

A Post-Doctoral Fellow position is available in the Cancer and Systems Therapeutics (CAST) program in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to support research in anticancer drug discovery. CAST program is focused on improving drug synthesis, development and delivery using tumor-directed pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics [PK/PD] and drug safety investigations, assay development, as well as elucidating innovative approaches to molecular determinants of drug resistance, tumorigenesis, drug disposition and cell death. It is preferred that the candidate has a background in synthetic or formulation chemistry and will be comfortable performing bioanalytical and toxicological studies. In the Principal Investigator (PI) lab, the candidate is expected to integrate their medicinal/synthetic/formulation/bioanalytical chemistry expertise with cancer drug discovery team to develop novel anticancer therapeutics. The candidate shall be directly engaged in training graduate students in co-ordination with members of CAST program on chemical synthesis, molecular techniques and assay development. In addition to collaborating with the other faculty members within the department, college, and wider scientific community, the candidate will also have the opportunity to develop their professional skills.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field required.

Knowledge , Skills & Abilities:

  • Organization skills.

  • Ability to work independently and to analyze data.

  • Discuss results with other lab personnel and the PI.

  • Skills to learn new knowledge on developing assays and techniques as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with lab/personnel management (1 years).

  • Experience in chemistry/bioanalytical related bench work (0 years).

  • Experience with computing, grant writing and data analysis (0 years) .


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Performs benchtop experiments.

  • Conducts biologically and chemically relevant research by selecting sources of information, supplies, and research models.

  • Develops, organizes and implements procedures for working.

  • Design research experiments, procedures, tests, or surveys.

  • Utilizes scientific or statistical methods to interpret, collect, and analyze data, ensuring accurate and timely progress on specific laboratory projects.

  • Identifies adverse trends, upon which he/she makes appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

  • Communicates with the principal investigator in order to develop research projects, interpret results, and prepare manuscripts for publication.

  • Assists in collecting preliminary data, grant writing and preparing reports for the funding agency.

  • Supervises and instructs students and staff in technical procedures, equipment operation, compliance, and laboratory maintenance.

  • Ensures that records and schedules are maintained, and coordinates research activities with collaborators.

  • Managing laboratory records and projects as requested by the PI.

  • Maintains compliance with UAMS, federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to biosafety, animal and human subjects research, including BSL, IACUC, and IRB compliance.

  • Spends quality time on professional development to prepare himself/herself for an independent career through independent study and funding proposals. 

  • May perform other duties as assigned.
