Position description
The Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratories of Deborah Krakow will perform independent research to study the contribution of progenitor perichondrial cells to bone strength in the context of Osteogenesis Imperfecta. The Postdoctoral Fellow will also be responsible for helping to supervise graduate students and undergraduate student researchers, preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals. This position requires a Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics, or a related field and experience molecular biology protocols. Experience with mouse models would be a significant advantage. The Postdoctoral Fellow position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance.
Start Date; earliest January 2024
The assigned project is focused on discovering the effect of collagen mutations on bone progenitor cells using in vitro and in vivo approaches. Techniques include mouse work, breeding and tissue collection, histology, in vitro cultures and co-culture, plasmid design and transfections, single cell and spatial cell sequencing, human sample processing, a variety of molecular biology and imaging techniques. Experience in any of these areas is beneficial but they are also established in the lab.
Specific Responsibilities include:
Responsibilities of this position include study design, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation.
Additional Duties:• Supervision of undergraduates, graduate students and new postdoctoral trainees in the lab.• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.• Ability to work independently on scientific projects.• Assist with preparation of grant proposals.• Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.• Required to communicate well with other scientists worldwide.• Candidate should have research experience in molecular biology in an academic setting or equivalent.• Candidate should have extensive experience in image processing.• The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.• Ability to handle several projects simultaneously.• Ability to help and train various personnel in lab techniques and analysis and make significant contributions to the design and execution of other laboratory members' experiments.
