Postdoc in Extragalactic Astronomy and Cosmology

Job Description


Applications are invited for one or two post-doctoral research positions at the University of California Los Angeles. The successful applicant will work with Prof. Tommaso Treu on one or more of the following topics: i) the investigation of the nature of dark matter ii) the Hubble Tension and the expansion history of the Universe; iii) galaxy formation and evolution at high redshift.

Available resources include James Webb Space Telescope, Hubble Space Telescope, Keck and VLT data, and access to the Hoffman2 shared cluster. Prof. Treu is heavily involved in the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). He is PI of an Early Release Science Program (GLASS-JWST), co-PI of one cycle-1 GO program, PI of a cycle-2 GO program, and co-investigator of multiple programs. Previous experience in analysis of JWST or HST data, ground based imaging and
spectroscopy, adaptive optics, code development, and gravitational lens modeling is considered a plus but it is not necessary. A fraction of the successful candidates' time is expected to be devoted to independent research.  The appointment is for two years. Renewal for a third year is subject to performance and availability of funds.

The appointment is expected to start on or before Sep 1 2024, and requires the completion of a PhD.
