General Summary of Position:

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Ecology, Organismal, or Environmental Biology at the Assistant Professor level starting September 2024. We seek a colleague who takes a functional and/or comparative approach to study ecological and/or environmental questions.

The area of specialization is open, but we are interested in applicants with expertise in behavioral, evolutionary, functional, molecular, physiological, or population ecology. Individuals with field-based research are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, collaborative, externally funded research program that engages trainees at all levels and incorporates their research into the classroom to fulfill our teaching and student engagement mission. Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate course and a graduate-level course (MS, PhD students) in the candidate’s area of specialization.

The department offers a B.S. in Biology with concentrations in General Biology, Pre-Health, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, and Ecology, Evolutionary & Organismal Biology (EEOB), a M.S. in Biological Science, a Ph.D. in Applied Biology and participates in the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology.

The University has strong ties to the community of Lowell, a mid-sized city with a diverse population that is located in the heart of the rich academic environment as well as the life sciences supercluster of the Northeast region of Massachusetts, which is home to more than 100 life science companies. Together with its proximity to the Boston/Cambridge biotechnology and biomedical hub, as well as numerous other universities, the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, there are ample opportunities for scientific interaction, exchange, and collaboration. Lowell is located 25 miles northwest of Boston and within one hour of mountains and beaches. Minimum Qualifications (Required):

• Earned doctorate and postdoctoral experience (required at the time of application)
• The ability to collaborate effectively with diverse student and faculty groups
• Demonstrated teaching and mentoring abilities at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels
• Potential to establish a sustainable, externally funded research program
• Demonstrated publication record in scholarly journals
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
