Do you enjoy solving challenges related to materials science and its applications on missile systems.

 

Do you have a passion for finding solutions to current and emerging materials challenges for the Department of Defense (DoD)?

 

If so, then we're looking for someone like you to join our Missile Materials Engineering team!

 

As a Missile Materials Engineer, you will...

 

  • Select materials to aid the design of missile components, characterize properties and evaluate the performance of such materials.
  • Develop novel material solutions for innovative weapon concepts.
  • Relate understanding of structure and property relationships for the design and processing of tailored materials.
  • Collaborate with the team to translate materials design choices and properties for system-level performance.
  • Actively participate in industry/government working teams by interacting with sponsors, contractors, and APL staff.
  • Document efforts and deliver presentations to internal project teams and external sponsors.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job, if you . . .

 

  • Possess a BS in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Ceramics, Chemistry, or related field and 1 year of professional relevant experience.
  • Are knowledgeable of high-temperature materials and thermal protection systems.
  • Are knowledgeable of various materials synthesis and processing techniques.
  • Are a reliable teammate with excellent communication skills.
  • Can occasionally travel to meet with sponsors and contractors.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
