RTG Research Associate and Lecturer

Job Description


RTG Research Associate: The Department of Mathematics at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, invites applications for one RTG (Research Training Group) postdoctoral Research Associate and Lecturer position, in the fields of geometry and topology.  The successful candidate will be expected to conduct their own research, under supervision of a faculty mentor, and teach two courses per year.  The appointment begins with the fall term of 2024, with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2024.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be on track to receive a Ph.D. in Mathematics or in a closely related field and must hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment.   Applicants must present evidence of outstanding accomplishments and promise in both research and teaching. Because of NSF rules, the position is restricted to US citizens, nationals, and permanent residents. In addition to teaching one course per semester during the academic year, RTG Postdoctoral Research Associates will assist in supervision of a summer undergraduate research program for one or two summers during their appointment. All candidates whose research interests complement the strengths of the department's geometry/topology faculty will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have received their Ph.D. within the last three years.

Review of applications will begin November 15, 2023; however, the position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. This position will also require an Education Verification (FSAKA).

All positions carry an initial appointment of one year, renewable for two additional years, contingent on performance.
