Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Biological Sciences in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology to start in August 2024. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.
We are seeking candidates with research programs related to metabolism, broadly defined, at any level ranging from the cellular, tissue, or organismal. All model and non-traditional systems are welcome, including cell culture, vertebrate and invertebrate animals, single-celled organisms, and in vitro systems. Successful applicants will also become part of the Arkansas Integrative Metabolic Research Center (https://aimrc.uark.edu/) at the University of Arkansas, which offers unique opportunities for NIH funding, mentorship, and grant writing support. Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in cell and molecular biology (or related fields) and demonstrated research accomplishments are required. Successful candidates are expected to establish an extramurally-funded research program, teach an undergraduate Cell Biology course, develop a graduate-level course within their area of expertise, contribute to the training of undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in professional service.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

The Department of Biological Sciences emphasizes cell and molecular biology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. Biological Sciences maintains one of the largest undergraduate majors in the university. Special topics courses, interdisciplinary graduate programs and undergraduate research opportunities expose students to a rigorous background in basic and advanced biology and allow for specialized coursework. Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment

  • Postdoctoral experience in a relevant field

  • Demonstrated research accomplishments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A record of peer-reviewed publications related to metabolism (broadly defined)

  • Evidence of high potential for success in research, teaching, and professional service
