Job Description

The Human Resources Officer collaborates with other Human Resources staff to provide support to departments in all areas of employee services. Must demonstrate professional and personal care for others, have a proven ability to promote the common good of the operation and take responsibility for the services of the department. Must be successful in promoting an organizational culture and climate that fully welcomes diversity and inclusiveness for all members of the Boston College community. 

Working in partnership with Human Resources Officers, this individual administers the temporary pool hiring process and manages the hiring of postdoctoral research fellows and research assistants across the University. The position serves as a key contact to external constituencies and those interested in applying for jobs at Boston College including the temp pool. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with full-cycle staff recruitment, sourcing potential candidates to diversify the applicant pool, prescreening qualified candidates, conducting references and CORI background check investigations.

- Ensure compliance with Protection of Minors (POM) authorized participation of BC Athletic and University sponsored program participants.  Monitor and audit successful completion of necessary forms and training in accordance with University’s Protection of Minors Policy and BC Audit guidelines for over 800 volunteers in 35 programs.

- Act as the initial contact regarding independent contractor vs. employee designations and inquiries about volunteer opportunities at the University. Monitors ACA compliance for temporary staff and notifies departments as appropriate per FLSA regulations.

- Serves the wider BC Community, especially internal applicants, managers, employees with various HR related queries.

- Responsible for hiring postdoctoral staff, Research Associates, Research Assistants, and Research Technicians, providing guidance on work authorizations and coordinating offer letters with departments.

- Ensures all administrative work is completed and processed as necessary to initiate, review and approve changes regarding job opening and an individual’s status on the BC payroll system.

- Collaborates with the Employment staff to ensure that in all matters, sound decisions are reached. Must demonstrate good judgment and provide excellent consultation to internal and external constituencies based on balanced consideration of facts, priorities, and alternatives. 

- Participates in external and internal initiatives (e.g., Job Fairs, PIC, Open House, and Community Outreach Programs).

Hiring ranges: 61,000- 77,000

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree preferred

A minimum of 1-3 years progressively responsible experience in a team based organization, preferable Human Resources.

Must have solid experience utilizing current technologies including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and especially web based ATS.

Must also have a proven ability to be organized, handle confidential information and interact effectively with a diverse population; must be able to work under pressure and in a changing environment.

Individuals may be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours on occasion.

Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to successfully promote a work environment that values diversity and supports respectful interactions.

Relevant experience in a Higher Education environment is desirable.

Has basic working knowledge of state and federal legal guidelines and HR practices; understands the challenges within the field and takes advantage of opportunities to build skills to be responsive to these challenges.

A second language, especially Spanish or Portuguese, is a plus.
