Posting Summary	Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Technician in Surgery for New Jersey Medical School. The Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery Research Labs in the Division of Translational and Surgical Science are in need of additional personnel for research activities to begin working in the laboratory immediately. The temporary research assistants will perform research activities and work requiring application of standard research techniques and procedures. They will participate in patient data and sample collection, sample handling and processing, laboratory sample analysis, and research database maintenance, with a focus on the evaluation of patient data and samples collected from patients with decompensated cirrhosis or undergoing liver transplant, as well as those collected from patients during the perioperative period associated with ischemia reperfusion injury. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Supports off-site patient data and sample collection efforts, sample analysis and preparations for collaborative site visits. Performs screening evaluations/tests and obtains physiological data from volunteer subjects. Performs research database maintenance. Organizes and prioritizes communication with the principal investigator. Coordinates University-related programs and courses. Completes necessary documentation to organize and analyze data. Assists with the maintenance of the laboratory facilities, equipment, and instruments. Cleans and maintains analytical laboratory equipment. Keeps detailed records of procedures and experiments.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience	Associate Degree in relevant science plus one year of related research experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities	Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, and be able to work independently and computer literate. Laboratory experience is essential, with knowledge of basic laboratory practices (making solutions, aseptic technique, cell culture and record keeping).
Preferred Qualifications	Prior experience working with research volunteers. Microsoft Outlook skills are an advantage. Experience with cardiovascular or balance testing would be beneficial.

Physical Demands and Work Environment	PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate Noise.

Immunization Requirements
