Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Supervising Research Scientist within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The Supervising Research Scientist, Head of Cell Therapy Research Laboratory, at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey will be responsible for providing leadership and direction for all aspects of the laboratory with a focus on innovative, collaborative research on the discovery and development of T cell therapy for cancer. The Supervising Research Scientist will lead the research team and direct day-to-day operations, including performance of experimental work in TCR discovery, development and implementation of experimental protocols for immunology and T cell biology, managing research collaborations, oversight of standard operating procedures (SOPs), budget development, project management, resource and personnel management, workflow, financial management, and training and supervision of staff. The Supervising Research Scientist will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the Cell Therapy research program at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Among the key duties for this position are the following: 
  • Approving the design and overseeing the coordination of immunology, T cell biology, and TCR discovery research projects within the laboratory, ensuring they align with research goals, strategies, and timelines. 
  • Planning, leading, and conducting independent research in the field of cell therapy, including the design and implementation of experiments, analysis of data, and interpretation of results. 
  • Planning, leading, and conducting translational research, including the translation of basic scientific discoveries such as the identification of new TCRs into clinical applications such as the development of new TCR-T cell therapies through close collaboration with the GMP/PD Facility at CINJ, and the evaluation of new therapeutic approaches in preclinical settings. 
  • Providing direction to and collaborating with research faculty in the Cell Therapy Research laboratory. 
  • Delivering oral and written presentations of research conducted.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in immunology or related field plus four (4) years of related research experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have previous experience in supervisory or lead responsibilities.
  • A strong background in research principles and techniques including molecular biology and immunology methods and the use of animal models is required.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in immunology or a related field with two (2) years of postdoctoral experience strongly preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
