Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Finance Supervisor within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. This individual will supervise analysts who are responsible for the development, monitoring and reconciliation of grant budgets and work closely with Principal Investigators to manage study and research budgets, monitor transactions, expenditures and sub-awards. 
Among the key duties for this position are the following: 
  • Creates effective work plans and work closely with staff by supervising and addressing their training needs in order to achieve competency of work performance and understanding of Grants and Contracts rules and regulations. 
  • Assists Principal Investigators in their grant budget submission for application of funds to prospective sponsors, adhering to proposals.
  • Analyzes grants and contracts budget variance reports for salary and non-salary cost categories including projection of the award expenditures thru the end of the project period. 
  • Ensures timely and accurate interim and final financial reports of grants and contracts, in collaboration with Information Systems.
  • Reviews restricted accounts, approving transaction requests by determining the allocability and allowability of the charges to the grant. 
  • Performs on-going reconciliation of the grant accounts versus budget and adheres to monthly review in order to avoid cost transfers that may arise in the interim. 
  • Tracks and reviews grant expiration dates.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree
  • requirement.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Five (5) years of experience with clinical contracts, budget development, variance analysis and research of financial data and transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality is required.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of financial database systems and reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior supervision/lead experience preferred.
  • Outstanding human relations skills and the ability to function in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
Equipment Utilized
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, walking, sitting, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment with moderate noise.
