Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM).
The CABM mission is to make fundamental discoveries and develop new technologies that can be translated to improve human health. The mission of CABM is concentrated in four key areas: research, teaching, industry and service. CABM is launching a new research initiative, the Rutgers New Jersey Kids Study, to understand the different factors influencing healthy childhood growth and development as well as risk factors for chronic disease and is seeking a Temporary Research Assistant. This position will assist with coordination of study documentation, recruitment of participants, consenting participants into the study as well as data tracking and analysis. The number of weekly hours for the position will be between 10-20 hours per week.

Reporting to the Program Manager of the New Jersey Kids Study, the Research Assistant will work virtually and over the phone with study participants for a pilot study. The Research Assistant will perform tasks related to participant recruitment, consent, follow-up and retention throughout the study. These tasks will be performed in a virtual environment with extensive use of online data management and tracking systems. Work will be performed in a hybrid arrangement – onsite at Rutgers CABM as well as remotely.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conducts literature reviews as needed.
  • Accurately documents all contact with participants.
  • Tracks participant progress in completing study activities and provides follow-up as needed.
  • Coordinates the mailing and delivery of biosample kits to participants according to requested dates and times.
  • Schedules and conducts virtual meetings with participants related to study consent and questions about the study.
  • Assists with data collection and database management.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Enrolled in the Rutgers Master of Public Health program as a current student or BS/MPH Combined Program. 
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have CITI certification in human subjects research.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to record and maintain study data in a computerized format.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to function in a team environment are required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Previous experience with online study data management systems.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records systems.

  • Physical Demands: Extensive sitting, standing, talking, listening, and reading. 
  • Work Environment: Active environment with moderate noise and extensive interaction with research study participants, requiring the ability to respond flexibly to individual needs
